Dale Jarrett finished 22nd out of 24 drivers in his final race, Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star event. It’s nowhere indicative of the kind of driver and champion Jarrett has been over the years. Although he didn’t make our all-time All-Star list (see it here), he was one of the best drivers of his generation and a solid ambassador for NASCAR.
Dale’s legendary father, Ned Jarrett, told the AP that Saturday night was the right time for Dale to say farewell to racing.
“I would hate to see him hang on for four or five more years or whatever the case might be,” Ned Jarrett said. “People have a tendency to remember you for the last thing you did. I want people to remember him as a champion and a winner in racing. If you hang on too long, sometimes people lose track of that.”
